Mental Health Counsellor

Our mental health counsellor assesses, supports and manages the various counselling needs of patients of the practice as part of the Hamilton Family Health Team.

About Our Cousellor

Our counsellor provides therapy for a wide range of emotional and behavioural concerns and suggests coping skills and strategies that are patient-specific. Some common issues addressed are anxiety, stress, depression, grief/loss, life transitions, relationships, addictions, trauma, anger, chronic pain and aging.

As a cognitive behavioural therapist, the counsellor works together with individuals exploring the connection between their thoughts, feelings and behaviours. Our counsellor utilizes short-term and evidence-based psychotherapy interventions which can increase mental health wellness and daily functioning. The counsellor will discuss with you a treatment plan which includes goals, frequency of sessions and duration of treatment. For therapy to be most effective you must be an active participant both during and between sessions. Resources and psycho-education will be provided as well as referrals for outside services when appropriate.

Our mental health counsellor is available to meet with adults and adolescents by scheduled appointment. The family physician or other practice healthcare professional may refer you or you can call the office to book a session if approved. The counsellor will schedule your follow up appointment at an agreed upon time. It is important to note that the therapy environment provided for our patients is always empathetic, respectful, non-judgmental and confidential.
